We have no historical information about the origins of Greengage. It (as its name suggests) is a green rhubarb, it has a sharp flavour. It lends itself to jam and wine making where mixed with other sweeter, more expensive fruits a more economical end product can be achieved.

Brandy Carr Nurseries are pleased to be able to offer for Autumn/ Winter 2018, the following variety of Rhubarb, " Fenton's Special " This variety was bred by Mr William Fenton of Tingley in West Yorkshire in the 1940's, it is unique to Wakefield's Famous and Historic Rhubarb Triangle. This is a mid season variety which is a lovely colour out in the field for fresh market use. It also produces a deep red heavy crop when used for forced Winter Production in The Forcing Sheds, a very reliable variety all round .
